Oughterard is a traditional fishing town on the western shores of Lough Corrib, Irelands second largest lake with 365 islands, some of them inhabited.

There is a relaxed and friendly atmosphere that makes everyone feel welcome, not to mention, a wealth of quality restaurants and pubs with traditional Irish music. Oughterard village has several excellent craft shops, as well.

County Galway offers the very best in game, coarse or sea angling with Loughs Corrib and Mask, Galway Bay and many other rivers and lakes close by.

The region is also a haven for horse-riding enthusiasts, with treks of varying lengths organised.

The West of Ireland is renowned as a golfing haven. There are several championship links courses within driving distance as well as Oughterard 18-hole parkland courses and pitch & putt.

The Galway coastline is laced with sandy beaches, (15 miles), and, as you would expect, there are a myriad of watersports to chose from including surfing, sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, water-skiing, scuba diving and powerboating.

Take a cruise along Lough Corrib, the Connemara Coastline, or on Killary, Ireland's only Fjord.

Crossriver is located in the center of a walkers paradise with the Western Way starting in Oughterard and runing along Lough Corrib. Shorter walks in the area include The Owenriff Way Walk and the Tonwee Wood Walk. Other activities on offer include rock-climbing, abseiling, archery, cycling and orienteering.

Oughterard is the ideal base to tour Connemara, Galway City, the Burren in County Clare, Cong, Westport, Croagh Patrick and Achill Island in Mayo or the famous Aran Islands.
